SATP #38: Spielberg's DUEL (of the Fates)

Before we were afraid to go in the water, Steven Spielberg made us afraid to drive down the road.  Rish and Marshal discuss the movie DUEL.

Fact Checker:
  • I failed to mention that Dennis Weaver's big break into television and Hollywood was as Chester on the classic western "Gunsmoke" TV show.  "Gunsmoke" was on the air for 20 years from 1955 to 1975.  Dennis left the show in 1964 after 9 years.
  • "Throttle" was co-written by Stephen King and Joe Hill (his son) and was inspired by Richard Matheson's "Duel".
  • "Freeway Games" by Orson Scott Card is found in the short story collection Maps in a Mirror.

Delusion #47 - Han and Chewie Battle of Yavin vignette, Take One

Rish and Marshal present the first of two Han and Chewie vignettes, and then talk about other things like Chadra-Fans, the merits of Admirals Ackbar and Holdo, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Fact Checker:
  • Admiral Amilyn Holdo from THE LAST JEDI was indeed the teenage friend of Princess Leia as written in Claudia Gray's novel Leia: Princess of Alderaan.
  • According to an article on Screen Rant: "In Holdo's introductory scene (her speech to the Resistance), [Rian] Johnson described the initial version of the admiral as 'hippy dippy' in order to illustrate how her leadership style contrasts with others we've seen. Later on, he became concerned Laura Dern's performance was 'too spacey' and decided to retool her characterization to make it stronger... Holdo is a primary supporting character in [Gray's novel], where these oddball qualities really shine through. The book depicts Holdo as almost Star Wars' answer to Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, but those traits aren't as apparent in the movie."
