Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 and became an American author, poet, editor and literary critic. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre, as well as the genre of science fiction.  He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.  Poe died in 1849,  in Baltimore, under mysterious circumstances, but he left us with a legacy of tales of wonder and woe, the marvelous and the macabre.

Dave Robison has narrated numerous books and stories for fiction podcasts and audiobooks (including several tales of Poe for Journey Into!). In addition to his vocal work, Dave is the creator of ARCHIVOS, an online story development and presentation tool that provides writers with a completely unique way of exploring their stories, as well as the host of the Archivos Podcast Network (currently on hiatus). He also designs board games and is an avid gardener, cook, and role-playing gamer.

NBC University Theater was a brand the National Broadcasting Co. applied to a category of radio programming. Although not actually a university, some colleges and universities collaborated in some of the programming, either contributing to its content or including the programming in their curriculum. NBC University Theater's most well-known radio series was The World's Great Novels. NBC used the name "University Theater" or similar from about 1923–1947.
