2023 Quordle Quell Writing Contest: Assignment of the Four Words

2023 “QUORDLE QUELL” WRITING CONTEST SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

CONTEST TIMELINE:

• You will be assigned the four words on which to base your story by email, and for those who have already entered, by listening to this episode of the podcast. 
• You must submit your new original story by 12:00:00 AM Mountain Time on May 1, 2023
• Winners will be announced on the show and by email by June 1, 2023
• Winning stories will be produced for audio publication on the podcast in 2023.

WORD COUNT: The story shall be between 7500 words or less in length

STORY REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES:

• The story must contain your four assigned words in a significant way.
• Please write an original story based on inspiration from the assigned words.  Please don't stuff these words into a story you have already written.  There is no way for me to enforce this, but the spirit of this contest is to provide a prompt for a new story.
• Preference for speculative fiction, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, and various combinations and sub-genre.
• Remember the winning stories will be produced for the podcast, so we will be looking for stories that "work well in audio".

CONTEST RESTRICTIONS: Please no splatter horror, grimdark, or explicit sexual content. Also please avoid coarse profanity (including Schlonz).

WHO WILL DECIDE THE WINNERS: A panel of volunteer judges.

PRIZES: 1st Prize: $20, 2nd Prize: $15, 3rd Prize: $5.  All winning stories will be produced as a full cast audio production for the podcast.

WHERE TO SEND SUBMISSIONS: Email submissions to journeyintopodcast@gmail.com

SUBMISSION FORMAT:  The subject line must contain the prefix of "2023 CONTEST:" followed by the title of your story.  The body of the email should be the text of your story.

Enter the 2023 Journey Into Quordle Quell Writing Contest

Let me know by January 15th that you would like to enter the Quordle Quell, where you will be given four words from a Quordle game that you must use within your story in a significant way for the contest.  There will be small cash prizes for the top three winners as well as having the story produced for the show.  More details to follow in January when I assign out the words. 2020 “JOURNEY INTO JOURNEY” WRITING CONTEST SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

CONTEST TIMELINE:

• You must declare your intention to submit a story by 11:59:59 PM Mountain Time on January 31, 2020
• You will be assigned your story title (Journey song title) on the show and by email on February 8, 2020
• You must submit your new original story by 11:59:59 PM Mountain Time on March 31, 2020
• Winners will be announced on the show and by email by April 30, 2020
• Winning stories will be produced for audio publication on the podcast some time in 2020 or 2021.

WORD COUNT: The story shall be between 2000 - 7500 words in length

• The story title must be the Journey song title assigned to you.
• You must include two phrases from the song lyrics somewhere in your story utilizing 4 words or more for each phrase.

2016 “JOURNEY INTO” WRITING CONTEST SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

SUBMISSION PERIOD: Submissions will open on April 1^st and close on May 1^st, 2016 at 11:59:59 PM

WORD COUNT: The story shall be 4000 words or less

WHAT TO WRITE:  All story titles must start with the words “Journey Into”.  The rest of the title, and the nature of the story’s journey is up to you.  I definitely want the character(s) in your story to go on some sort of journey.  Most likely that will be a physical journey, but I suppose one could go on a journey of the mind, or through dimensions, or to other worlds, or other lands, or even just down the street.  Be creative! But regardless of the journey, there should be action, plot, motivation, and choices.  Observations of pensive thought is not what I’m looking for.

CONTEST RESTRICTIONS: Please no splatter horror, grimdark, or explicit sexual content. Also please avoid coarse profanity (including Schlonz).

WHO WILL DECIDE THE WINNERS: A panel of volunteer judges.

PRIZES: 1^st PRIZE: $20, 2^nd PRIZE: $10, 3^rd PRIZE: $5.  All winning stories plus undetermined number of Honorable Mentions will be produced as a full cast audio production for the podcast.
