Teenage Elijah ( Eli ) finds a strange futuristic gun in an abandoned building in Detroit just before getting pulled onto a road trip with his shifty and foolhardy ex-con brother under false pretenses.  Danger both follows them and meets them along the way, leading to revelations for Eli about himself and this curious weapon.
