Journey #195 - Like a Moth to a Flame by Barry Haworth (1st Place Quordle Quell Writing Contest Winner).

Algernon invites Brother Michael to come help debunk a séance that his widowed mother insists will help her reach beyond the veil of death.

Barry Haworth works as a data scientist with the Australian Taxation Office, which is more interesting than you might think.  Barry lives in Brisbane, Australia with his wife Sylvia, his three unmarried children, their five cats and one dog.  Barry's married daughter has just made him a grandfather.  Outside of work and family, Barry's hobby is community theatre, where he has performed a variety of roles over the years, including some Shakespeare (Malvolio in Twelfth Night and Prospero in The Tempest), Marley's Ghost and Ebenezer Scrooge in two different version of A Christmas Carol, a few musicals, a murder mystery or two, and a lot of children's theatre with his daughters when they were younger.  Barry is currently rehearsing for a production of Frankenstein, his first ever science fiction play.  Barry has listened to Journey Into for many years and has meant to enter several past writing competitions but only managed to complete something for this latest one.

Rish Outfield is a writer, voice actor, and imitator of the late Sean Connery.  He's a fan of the Star Wars Trilogy, Eighties music, and those horror movies your mother insisted you not watch for fear of what they'd do to you (turns out she was right about that one).  He's the former co-host of the Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine podcast, and his own show, the Rish Outcast.

Journey #194 - The Decline of the West (and other secret terrorist photo galleries) by R.C. Anderson (2nd Place Quordle Quell Writing Contest Winner)

Langer is trying to start over  after getting out of Silicon Valley, but accidently gets pulled into a terrorist conspiracy while trying to develop his next web product.

Cast of characters:
Bria Burton as Lee-Ann
Rish Outfield as Zoltan
Josh Roseman as Armin Pluto
Marshal Latham as Langer, and the narrator.

R.C. Anderson is an amateur writer who would much rather write something original and good, than cliché and great. Although his attempts at “Original & Great” have sometimes yielded success.  While he wishes he could focus on writing more, (‘focus’ being the key word), his day job at a microchip fab provides for such luxuries as food, shelter, a backyard tomato garden, and the ability to have writing as a hobby, even if he’s too tired to want to do it most days.  He lives in Oregon with two cats (Katie and Bobbie), is considering his alternatives to this, (on states of which to live in, not the cats).

Journey #191 - With A Banjo On My Knee by Rish Outfield (3rd Place Quordle Quell Writing Contest Winner)

Garrett McClaren picks up an old banjo in an alley after watching the murder of who he thinks was its previous owner.  Despite that, he feels compelled to learn how to play it and discovers not is all as it seems.

Keith Teklits as Brad Kramer
Renee Chambliss as Belva Stone
Bria Burton as LaTonya Erinsen
Big Anklevich as Cal Hickson
Gino Morretto as the Columbia Records executive
Marshal Latham as the narrator, and assorted voices

Rish Outfield is a writer, voice actor, and imitator of the late Sean Connery.  He's a fan of the Star Wars Trilogy, Eighties music, and those horror movies your mother insisted you not watch for fear of what they'd do to you (turns out she was right about that one).  He's the former co-host of the Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine podcast, and his own show, the Rish Outcast.  Born with an oddly-shaped birthmark and a lack of the vital section of the brain that produces ambition, he could still live a somewhat-full life, if only he'd get up and do something once in a w--oh no, he's gone to sleep again.

Journey #154 - Elsie at 30,000 Feet by Tim Pratt

Tim Pratt typically writes about love, monsters, secret societies, romance, trickster gods, terrible decisions, punching, metaphysics, nostalgia, entropy, magical anthropophagous cars, bridges to implausible realities, libraries, demonic thrift shops, cryptids, and breakfast foods, among other subjects. Most of his stories involve magic, or science, or science that could be mistaken for magic.

And he's pretty good at this stuff. He won a Hugo Award for one of his stories a while back, and his short work has been nominated for World Fantasy, Nebula, Sturgeon, and Stoker Awards, too. His stories have appeared in the Best American Short Stories (Fancy!), the Year's Best Fantasy, The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, the Mammoth Book of Best New Horror – you get the idea.

Go to timpratt.org to learn about more about his books and collections, or like I mentioned earlier, head over to patreon.com/timpratt to read more of his stories.  Recently, in light of the Coronavirus and all the quarantines, Tim made the first year of stories on Patreon free for anyone to read.  That's very cool, but you might as well toss him a buck a month to read all of his stories.
