Journey #165 - Murder Mysteries by Neil Gaiman (as presented by Seeing Ear Theater)

In this mystery noir set in heaven’s City of Angels before the fall, the first crime has been committed. It is an awful one. While the angelic hosts labor to create the world and its workings, one of their number is mysteriously slain by one of their own. Neil Gaiman is a British fantasy author whose work has been honored with many awards internationally, including the Newbery and Carnegie Medals. His books and stories have also been honored with Hugos, Nebulas, the World Fantasy Award, Bram Stoker Awards, Locus Awards, British SF Awards, British Fantasy Awards, and numerous others.  Some of his most notable works include The Sandman comic book series, and novels American Gods, Anansi Boys, Coraline, Good Omens, and Graveyard Book.

Journey #117 - The Death of Captain Future by Allen Steele (Seeing Ear Theatre)

Spacer Rohr Furland takes a temporary position on The Comet, joining the sparse crew of Jeri, a bioengineered “Superior” human, a cranky AI referred to as "The Brain", and the eccentric (some say crazy) captain, Bo McKinnon, who styles himself to be the 1940’s pulp SF hero, Captain Future.

Allen Steele was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his B.A. in Communications and a M.A. in Journalism. Before turning to SF, he worked for as a staff writer for daily and weekly newspapers, freelanced for business and general-interest magazines, and spent a short tenure as a Washington correspondent, covering politics on Capitol Hill.

Steele, became a full-time science fiction writer in 1988, following publication of his first short story, "Live From The Mars Hotel" (Asimov's, mid-Dec. `88). Since then he has become a prolific author of novels, short stories, and essays, with his work appearing all over the world.

In 2013, he received the Robert A. Heinlein Award, presented by the Robert A. Heinlein Society in recognition of his fiction promoting the exploration of space.


Seeing Ear Theater was an extension of the SCI-Fi Channel, and produced audio dramas between 1997 and 2001. Dozens of Science Fiction and Fantasy stories were produced by a dedicated and talented crew of multimedia artists, writers, actors and musicians and delivered “radio” drama via streaming audio. It managed to capture some of the top living SF writers of today, like Harlan Ellision, J. Michael Straczynski, Connie Willis, Neil Gaiman, and Kim Stanley Robinson. It also produced some classic stories, from the likes of Fredric Brown, Poul Anderson, and William Tenn.

Poul Anderson (November 25, 1926 – July 31, 2001) was an American science fiction author who began his career during one of the Golden Ages of the genre and continued to write and remain popular into the 21st century. Anderson also authored several works of fantasy, historical novels, and a prodigious number of short stories. He received numerous awards for his writing, including seven Hugo Awards and three Nebula Awards.

Journey #64 - Fire Watch by Connie Willis (presented by Seeing Ear Theatre)

Young Bartholomew is a graduate student in history from a future Oxford who is assigned to travel back in time to join and study the famous Fire Watch Brigade-the volunteer corps whose brave members kept St. Paulâs Cathedral from being burned to the ground by Nazi incendiaries.

Connie Willis was  born on 31 December 1945 is an American science fiction (SF) writer. She has won eleven Hugo Awards and seven Nebula Awards. Her first published story, "The Secret of Santa Titicaca," appeared in Worlds of Fantasy in 1971. After receiving an NEA grant in 1982, she left her teaching job and became a full-time writer.

Willis has written several pieces involving time travel by history students at a faculty of the future University of Oxford.   It all started with  short story "Fire Watch" (found in the collection of the same name) and the novels Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog, as well as the two-part novel Blackout/All Clear. All of the Oxford Time Travel stories have won the Hugo Award, and all but To Say Nothing of the Dog have won both the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award.

She lives in Greeley, Colorado with her husband, Courtney.
